We have a Moffat MSM 2478 W-1.
The large burner doesn't work properly.
We have replaced the element twice, and the socket? once.
The problem used to be that intermittently the element wouldn't work, and we would have to jiggle the element sort of into the socket, like it came loose.
Now we have the same problem, but it also seems that the element is either off or on maximum heat. If you bring a pot of water to a boil (at max), then reduce the heat to just maintain the boil, the element shuts off completely.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I have not ever worked on that brand. I would check the control for that burner. Check the connection from the receptacle to the control also.

Hi, Mark.
When you say to check "the control", I think of the rheostat dially-thing. Is that right?
Are there any voltage or resistance values I should check for?
Thanks,

Without seeing a diagram I'm not sure the type of control. More than likely you have an infinite switch, that can be tested.
