Here's the problem.
My wife noticed that the fridge was warm. We put a thermometer in the fridge and it is just below 50 degrees. I was out of town, so my wife called the appliance repair man. He came in saw the coils in the freezer were full of frost and Ice manually defrosted the coils. Said some wire was loose and said it was fixed.
One week later Fridge warm again.
She called the repair man back. He said it must be the computer. Manually defrosted it again. Said he would order a new computer and would come back and install it. Now one week later, Same problem. I went ahead and used the heat gun to manually defrost the coils. Since I've already paid for two visits and a computer, I'd like this repair place to fix the problem, but needless to say, I'm a little annoyed that the appliance repair person was only guessing at the problem and did not do the proper diagnosis
The repair people have very good references ( highly rated in washington checkbook ) and very easy to deal with, so I'm sure they are going to make it right.
But just in case, I'd like to do some diagnosing on my own, and if the repair person will listen, give them some of your advice.
I've looked in the forum, and from the descriptions I have seen, I would say this problem sounds more like some defrost timer or defrost thermostat.
Is the control board that was replaced the defrost timer? Is there a way to test the defrost timer or defrost thermostat? Where would I look for them.
Thanks in advance.
Looking forward to having a beer colder than 50 degrees again.

Yes, the control board that the tech. installed has the integrated defrost control on it. So its either a bad defrost thermostat or defrost heater. The thermostat clips on the top of your evaporator coil inside the freezer, I always test them with a ohm meter(while frosty) for continuity. Normal would be 0-1 ohm. The refrigerator must be unplugged first before testing it. Make sure the tech checks both.

Hi Mark Tech just left said it was the thermostat, claims when he was here to replace the computer he first checked the thermostat and defrost heater and both checked out ok. Today he only charged for the part but I'm thinking I bought a computer and 2 service calls for what should have been a simple fix. Could the part have failed after the computer was replaced? or do you think I got ripped off?

It's possible but unlikely. The only way you would know, is if you had the old computer back and checked it. Ask if you can get it back.
